Hello, I'm Josie. I'm a cruelty-free hairstylist with a huge heart for animals, people and the planet.
I'm the proud salon owner of The Organic Hair Salon here in Orlando. Feel free to read what I'm all about!
Throughout my career I noticed myself getting more and more sensitive to beauty products. My skin would turn red, become itchy, break out in hives, etc. Not to mention in the end of my work day, I would often leave with a headache and sore throat. I was nervous that my career as a hairstylist would be over.
It wasn't until I receive help from a wonderful nutritionist and did lots of additional research that I noticed what I ate and what I put on my skin were both connected. At first I just changed my eating and removed all gluten in my home. This helped a lot but I was still having issues, so I took it a step further. I decided to remove all these ingredients in my make-up, cleaning supplies and so on. This completely changed my life. I no longer was getting random rashes and breakouts, my mind became clearer, and most importantly my chronic muscle aches started to become less chronic.
Now that I've gotten a good grasp of this healthier lifestyle, I began telling my clients more about it. I felt like a hypocrite telling my clients how great this was while my career was based on putting toxic chemicals on people's scalps. Not to mention, morally I was truly against animal testing but was still using products that were non-apologetically doing so. I finally took the plunge to create a beauty experience that uses less chemicals and focuses more on the actual beauty part.
Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a completely natural hair color and products that are going to give you the results you desire. But with LOTS and LOTS of research, I was able to gather together products that'll offer you beautiful hair without jeopardizing our health.
I will admit, I am not perfect. But I know my intentions and what I believe in and am extremely excited for you to enjoy this experience with me.
I originally started attending college to become an accountant (my mother's idea). I always wanted to do hair, so I committed to doing two years of college, and if I hated it I could go to school for cosmetology. And you could probably guess what happened next. So after two years of making good grades, even had a job in the industry, I knew it just wasn't for me.
Moving forward, I attended cosmetology school here in Central Florida. While attending school I was an apprentice at an upscale salon as well as worked at a professional beauty supply store because I wanted to leave school feeling well rounded. Having lived in Florida most of my life, I was given the amazing opportunity to work for Bumble and Bumble (owned by Estee Lauder) in Manhattan as an apprentice. It was intense but a dream come true and a great privilege. After a year of cold weather I decided to go back with all my new found knowledge and started working as a hair stylist in Orlando.
I've been in the industry now for 12 years and every single year I grow more and more in love with it. There's just something about the feeling you get when a client leave your chair with up-lifted, confident and empowered. As cliche as that sounds, I just love that.
During my organic hair stylist journey I went from renting a super tiny suite, to renting a space behind a store to now being the proud owner of my very own organic hair salon.
I'm happily married (6 years now) to my most favorite person on the planet. We have 1 rescued dog and no children (incase you're wondering).
For fun we love to travel in and out of the US... preferably anywhere that has cooler weather and amazing mountain hikes. I love nature, gardening, bright colors, farm animals, non-cardio workouts; yoga, pilates, barre and being surrounded by positive energy.
If you read all of this, I'm sorry I wrote so much! I just want my future clients (my current clients may already know all this) a little about my background and personality. I don't want people to feel like they're just another client but an important part of my life.
